In between random showers thwarting many local hay makers (ourselves included), the sun has finally decided to pay us a visit, with some sweltering temperatures.

Since many of us retreat inside during the heat of the day – here’s some simple, cheap and cheerful tips to get your doors and windows working for you over the hot months ahead.

50 shades of cool – Make sure any windows or doors in direct sunlight have the curtains or blinds drawn, and do this early in the morning if you know it’s going to get hot. Awnings and shade sails also help cut down the heat too.

If you can cut the heat off at the source before it enters your home, then it’s much easier to keep the internal air cool.
